FORTRAN (FORmula TRANslation language)
FORTRAN is a high-level programming language developed by IBM in
1954. It is typically used in
the math, science and engineering fields because it was originally designed for use with mathematical
formulas. Of the various flavors and versions available, FORTRAN 90 is the latest and was adopted
as an International Standard by ISO in July, 1991. ISO published the standard as ISO/IEC 1539:1991. The
Usenet group for FORTRAN is comp.lang.fortran.
